As you climb from the lower edges near Sliven, the Mediterranean-influenced scrub transitions into dense beech forests that cover the higher ravines. This contrast is highly visible along the trails, where dry, sun-baked rock faces suddenly give way to shaded, damp woodland floors covered in leaf litter. The area is not a place for flat, gentle walks; the terrain is rugged and demanding, with significant elevation changes over short distances.
In May, the open meadows on the high plateau are filled with flowering mountain plants, offering a distinct contrast to the barren stone cliffs below. The main trails are well-marked, but the terrain remains rough and uneven underfoot, with some sections requiring scrambling over boulders. While the lower chairlift station and immediate viewpoints attract more visitors, the deeper forest paths and higher rocky ridges offer a much quieter, more demanding walking experience.
