IT4040014 - ZPS - Valli Mirandolesi is a flat, reclaimed lowland area in the Po Valley of northern Italy, managed by the Provincia di Modena. The landscape is defined by its artificial water management, featuring a network of drainage canals, shallow retention basins, and wet meadows rather than natural rivers or deep lakes. Walkers will find a highly modified agricultural territory where patches of marshland and reedbeds have been deliberately restored to serve as bird sanctuaries.

Underfoot, the terrain consists entirely of flat dirt tracks, grassy embankments, and farm roads running alongside the water channels. There are no hills, rocky paths, or boardwalks here. The walking experience is straightforward and level, with the clay soil of the Po plain forming the main surface beneath your boots.

During the spring migration in April and May, these shallow basins fill with wading birds, making the embankments excellent vantage points for quiet observation. The area lacks the shade of deep forests, offering instead an open view of low-lying fields and engineered wetlands where the hand of water management is visible in every ditch and sluice gate.
