WandelWeb keeps saying my battery setting is wrong, even though I turned everything off. How is that possible?
Two different battery settings
Android has two settings that both have to do with saving battery:
- Battery Saver for the whole phone. This is the switch you often also see in the quick settings. It applies to all apps at once.
- Battery optimization per app. This lets Android decide per app whether it may keep running in the background. By default every app is set to Optimized. Android may then pause the app once the screen has been off for a while.
The message in WandelWeb is only about the second setting. Even if Battery Saver, Adaptive Battery and RAM Boost are all off, WandelWeb itself can still be set to "Optimized". The message only disappears once WandelWeb is set to Unrestricted (or Don't optimize).
Why does this matter? During a hike your screen is usually off and your phone is in your pocket. If WandelWeb is set to "Optimized", Android can stop the app after a while. Your hike is then no longer recorded (properly).
