Do I get notifications for new messages?
Smart push notifications for chats
Yes — if you have given permission for push notifications, you'll get a notification for new chat messages. We designed notifications to be private and not annoying.
Privacy:
- The notification shows no message content — only the sender and a generic line like "New message"
- The content is encrypted; nobody (including Apple/Google) can read it
- The encrypted content is only decrypted inside the app itself
Smart behaviour:
- Already have the chat open? We suppress the notification — you see the message right in the app
- For multiple messages arriving in quick succession, we update the existing notification instead of sending many new ones
- You can disable notifications via your phone settings → WandelWeb → Notifications
App icon badge:
The number on the app icon (on iOS) automatically counts unread chat messages. Read them in the app and the badge disappears automatically.
