The best hiking routes in Subcarpathian Voivodeship

Subcarpathian Voivodeship offers two distinct walking landscapes defined by its elevation zones. In the south, Bieszczadzki Park Narodowy and the adjacent Ciřniańsko-Wetliński Park Krajobrazowy present steep, open-topped ridges known as polonynas. Here, the paths transition from dense beech forests to exposed, grassy crests where the soil is often a mix of compacted clay and shale. These high-altitude meadows are highly exposed, meaning walkers will experience the full force of the elements directly on the trail.

Further north, the terrain softens into the rolling, forested hills of Magurski Park Narodowy and Park Krajobrazowy Pog3rza Przemyskiego. This is a landscape of lower elevations, characterized by muddy valley tracks, quiet river bends, and mixed woodland rather than dramatic peaks. Underfoot, you will mostly encounter damp leaf litter, forest loam, and occasional gravel forestry tracks. It is a gentler, more enclosed walking environment where the views are framed by trees rather than wide-open horizons.

In October, the beech forests of Magurski Park Narodowy turn a deep rust-red, making it a distinct autumn destination. While the popular ridges of Bieszczadzki Park Narodowy attract steady foot traffic along the main marked chains, the forested valleys of Park Krajobrazowy G3r Słonnych remain much quieter, offering a simpler route network through working timber forests and old pasture land.
