The best hiking routes in ZEC Estaca de Bares

ZEC Estaca de Bares occupies the northernmost peninsula of Spain, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Bay of Biscay. This coastal reserve is characterized by steep granite cliffs that drop directly into the sea, topped by a plateau of wind-swept maritime heathland and gorse. The terrain is open and exposed, lacking any high peaks or deep forested valleys, offering instead a low-lying, rocky landscape shaped by its maritime position.

Underfoot, walkers will find a mix of narrow dirt tracks, gravel paths, and sections of bare granite rock. The vegetation is dominated by low, dense shrubs like heather and gorse, which bloom in vibrant yellow and purple tones during August.
