The best hiking routes in Rio Minho

The Rio Minho protected area covers the southern, Portuguese bank of the Minho river, where the water forms a natural border with Spain. This is a low-lying, riverine landscape dominated by alluvial forests, salt marshes, and fertile agricultural plains. Unlike the rugged, mountainous terrain found further inland, walking here means navigating flat, gentle paths that follow the water's edge, offering direct views of the wide river channel and its small, wooded islands.
