Oros Gioukhta kai faraghghiou Aghias Eirinis Dimos Arkhanwn offers a stark contrast between a prominent limestone mountain ridge and a deep, shaded ravine. The western flank of Mount Giouchtas rises abruptly with steep limestone cliffs, while the eastern slopes are gentler, covered in low, aromatic phrygana scrub and olive groves. In contrast, the Agia Eirini gorge provides a closed-in environment where the path follows the rocky, dry torrent bed under a canopy of plane trees, oleanders, and carob trees.

Underfoot, walkers will encounter two distinct terrains. The mountain paths are dominated by loose limestone scree, sharp rocks, and uneven dirt tracks that require careful stepping, especially on the steeper ascents toward the peak sanctuary. Inside the gorge, the route is flatter but consists of a stony riverbed with large boulders to navigate, interspersed with sections of hard-packed earth. The landscape is shaped by tectonic activity and centuries of grazing, leaving the limestone slopes exposed and heavily eroded, while the gorge remains a sheltered corridor for moisture-loving vegetation.

This area is ideal for those seeking rugged karst terrain and botanical variety rather than dense pine forests or high-altitude alpine meadows. The lower gorge sections are often quieter, while the summit of Giouchtas attracts more visitors due to its chapel and panoramic views over the surrounding vineyards. In April and May, the limestone crevices along the mountain paths are marked by flowering Cretan ebony and wild orchids, making this the best time to observe the specialized cliff flora.
