Fosso della Vallaccia - Monte Pormaiore offers a rugged, limestone-dominated landscape in the Apennines, characterized by a sharp contrast between its deep, shaded ravine and the exposed, grassy slopes of the mountain ridge. The lower sections follow the path of the stream bed, where water has carved a steep-sided gorge through the rock, creating a damp, sheltered microclimate filled with deciduous trees and moss-covered boulders. As you ascend toward Monte Pormaiore, the tree cover thins out, transitioning into open, rocky pastures that are highly exposed to the elements.
