Drimos Ainoy occupies the high limestone ridge of Cephalonia, dominated by a dark, dense forest of the endemic Cephalonian fir. Unlike the scrubby, dry maquis that covers most of the lower slopes of the island, this high-altitude park offers a cool, shaded environment where the trees grow tall and close together. The terrain is steep and rocky, with limestone crags and sinkholes breaking up the forest floor. Walkers should expect a landscape defined by sharp elevation changes, where the underfoot conditions shift between loose limestone scree, dirt tracks cushioned by pine needles, and occasional paved sections near the summit installations.

In contrast, the trails leading along the spine of the ridge toward the highest peaks are narrower, rougher, and require careful navigation over jagged rock.
