About CHKO Litovelské Pomoraví

CHKO Litovelské Pomoraví is a flat, forested floodplain shaped by the natural branching of the Morava River. Unlike hilly Czech forest parks, this landscape is defined by its level terrain, where the river constantly shifts its gravel banks and creates seasonal side channels. Walkers will find a mix of dense alluvial forests, damp meadows, and pools of standing water rather than sweeping vistas or deep valleys.

Underfoot, the paths vary from unpaved, muddy forest tracks to paved cycling paths that run through the main corridor. In the spring months, particularly in April, the forest floor is covered by a dense carpet of wild garlic and early spring flowers, which is a defining feature of this damp woodland. The terrain requires no climbing, but the proximity to water means mosquitoes are common during the warmer months.

While the main paved routes near the town of Litovel attract cyclists, the narrower dirt paths closer to the riverbanks offer a quieter experience. It is a landscape of shade, slow-moving water, and fallen timber, suited for those who prefer level woodland walking over hill climbing.
