The best hiking routes in Region of Trenčín

The Region of Trenčín offers distinct walking terrains shaped by limestone geology and traditional upland farming. In the west, CHKO Biele Karpaty and the smaller Holubyho kopanice feature meadows interspersed with isolated homesteads, where paths run over clay soils and limestone outcrops. In contrast, Chránená krajinná oblasť Strážovské vrchy presents steeper, forested climbs through beech woods and rugged rock formations, requiring more physical effort underfoot.

Walkers seeking dense forests and damp, mossy valleys will find them in Chránená krajinná oblasť Kysuce and CHKO Beskydy along the northern borders. Here, the paths follow sandstone ridges and forestry tracks that can become muddy. Towards the south, Chránená krajinná oblasť Ponitrie and Chránená krajinná oblasť Malé Karpaty transition into warmer, oak-forested hills with gentler gradients and drier, stony paths.
