The terrain underfoot consists primarily of dirt tracks, grassy paths, and occasional wooden boardwalks designed to cross the wettest sections of the floodplains. Because the water levels are managed artificially for water supply, the shoreline shifts throughout the year, exposing muddy flats in late summer that attract migrating wading birds. The walking routes here are flat and gentle, offering no steep climbs or wide panoramic views, but rather close-up views of dense canopy and quiet inlets.
This reserve is best suited for those who prefer quiet birdwatching and shaded forest paths over open hill walking. While the main access points near the dam can see regular local visitors, the paths tracing the narrow river arms deeper into the agricultural countryside offer a much quieter, enclosed woodland experience.
