Vištyčio regioninis parkas, situated in the hilly southwestern corner of Lithuania, is defined by its dramatic glacial topography. Unlike the flat plains found in much of the country, this park features steep ridges, deep hollows, and the high-altitude Vištytis hill land. Walkers will encounter a mix of dense broadleaf forests, open meadows, and the vast shoreline of Lake Vištytis. The terrain is characterized by its stony soils, with large boulders left behind by retreating ice sheets scattered across the fields and woodlands.

Underfoot, the trails vary from packed dirt paths through the shaded oak and hornbeam forests to sandy tracks along the lake edge. Several sections require navigating rolling terrain with significant elevation changes for the Baltic region. Wet peatlands and small kettle lakes occupy the depressions between the hills, where wooden boardwalks occasionally assist crossing, though most of the network relies on natural, unpaved ground that follows the contours of the moraine ridges.

In October, the deciduous canopy of the Šilelis forest turns vibrant yellow, contrasting with the dark spruce stands. While the lakeside areas near the main town can attract visitors, the interior forest paths and the trails near the tripoint border remains quiet, offering a straightforward walking experience focused on moraine geology and woodland ecology.
