Trossö-Kalvö-Lindö naturreservat covers three connected islands in the northern Bohuslän archipelago, joined today by narrow, artificial stone causeways. The landscape is dominated by exposed, glaciated granite hills and shallow valleys. Walking here does not involve climbing high peaks, but rather navigating a low, undulating terrain where bare rock surfaces alternate with pockets of denser vegetation.

Underfoot, the paths vary between firm, gravelled tracks on the flatter coastal plains and uneven, rocky paths over the granite ridges. In the low-lying areas between the hills, you will cross damp meadows and small patches of deciduous woodland, where the soil is richer and supports oak and birch. The causeways themselves are flat and exposed, providing straightforward walking between the distinct island sections.

Choosing where to walk depends on your preference for terrain. The northern and southern sections of the reserve offer more rugged, pathless granite slabs that require careful stepping, while the central areas around the old farmsteads feature more defined, grassy tracks. This is a working coastal landscape where sheep grazing keeps the meadows open, preventing the scrub from overtaking the historic pastures.
