About Přírodní park Rohatiny
Přírodní park Rohatiny offers a quiet walking landscape dominated by the deep, forested valleys of the Střela and Kralovick streams. Underfoot, the trails are mostly unpaved forest tracks, often narrow and uneven with exposed tree roots and loose shale. In the lower parts of the valleys, the paths run close to the water, where the ground consists of softer alluvial soil. There are no high mountain peaks or dramatic rocky gorges here; the landscape is instead a dense network of ravines carved into the slate bedrock, which creates a very enclosed, sheltered atmosphere as you walk.
In April and May, the forest floor along the streams is covered in fresh green growth before the canopy closes. Walkers will notice several old slate quarry ruins and small stone heaps along the paths, which explain the uneven, terraced shapes of the hillsides. The area is generally quiet, with most visitors sticking to the marked trails near the stream confluences, leaving the steeper upper tracks largely undisturbed.
