The best hiking routes in Park Narodowy Ujście Warty

Park Narodowy Ujřcie Warty is a vast, flat wetland landscape situated at the confluence of the Warta and Oder rivers. Unlike forested parks, this area is dominated by open meadows, reed beds, and willow scrub. The terrain is shaped by seasonal water fluctuations, meaning the landscape you see is defined by how the river behaves. Walking here is a choice between two distinct zones separated by the river: the northern bypass dyke which offers elevated, dry gravel tracks, and the southern floodplain where paths are low-lying dirt tracks that follow old drainage canals.

Underfoot, the paths vary significantly. The northern section relies on solid, raised embankment trails that keep you above the wet ground, providing a stable surface for walking. In contrast, the southern meadows feature grassy tracks and muddy clay paths that run alongside willow thickets and marshy depressions. There are no boardwalk networks or paved promenades here; the walking is straightforward but requires sturdy footwear suitable for soft, uneven ground.

This park is not a place for woodland hikes or hill climbing, as the elevation changes are virtually non-existent. Instead, the appeal lies in observing the transition between managed pastureland and wild, flooded riverbeds. In autumn, particularly during October, the open pastures become major resting sites for migrating geese, which you can observe from simple wooden watchtowers situated along the main dyke paths.
