The best hiking routes in Park Krajobrazowy Dolina Dolnej Odry

Park Krajobrazowy Dolina Dolnej Odry protects a vast, watery maze of channels, reed beds, and flooded meadows between two arms of the Odra River. Unlike the hilly pine forests typical of western Poland, this landscape is flat, low-lying, and defined by water. Walkers will find a stark contrast between the dry, sandy dikes that offer elevated paths and the peat-rich, waterlogged soils of the river basin itself.

Walking here means navigating a network of dikes, old canals, and grassy embankments. Underfoot, the terrain alternates between packed dirt tracks, sandy paths along the riverbanks, and sections of soft, damp turf. Because much of the area is a functioning floodplain, some paths can be muddy or obstructed by high water, requiring sturdy footwear. The vegetation is dominated by dense reeds, willows, and aquatic plants, which limit long-distance views but provide a close-up look at a thriving wetland ecosystem.

This park is not a place for dry woodland hikes or marked gravel loops. It is a quiet, sometimes challenging wetland where the main paths follow the artificial dikes built to tame the river.
