The best hiking routes in Park Krajobrazowy Beskidu Małego

Park Krajobrazowy Beskidu Małego covers a compact, densely forested mountain range in southern Poland. Unlike the higher, rocky peaks of the neighboring Beskid Zywiecki, this area is characterized by lower, rounded sandstone ridges and steep, wooded slopes. The forest canopy is dominated by beech and spruce trees, which create a deep shade over the paths. Walkers will notice numerous small streams cutting through the valleys, creating damp, mossy microclimates along the lower trails, while the ridges offer drier, stony ground underfoot.

The trail network consists mostly of rough forest tracks, exposed tree roots, and loose sandstone rubble. Walking here requires attention to footing, especially on the steeper ascents where the soil easily erodes. The landscape is shaped by traditional forestry and natural rock formations, including small sandstone outcrops and caves hidden among the trees. It is a working forest landscape, where active timber management coexists with protected natural zones.

While the main ridge trails, such as the route leading toward the summit of Czupel, are popular and well-marked, the side valleys and lesser-known paths remain quiet. Visitors should expect a classic forested mid-mountain terrain rather than open alpine meadows. The views are mostly framed by trees, opening up occasionally at clearings or windthrow areas to reveal the surrounding valleys and reservoirs.
