The Parc naturel r gional du Haut-Jura is characterized by its distinctive limestone geology, which shapes the landscape into a series of long, parallel ridges and high-altitude valleys known as combes. Unlike rugged alpine peaks, this area offers rounded summits, dense spruce forests, and open pastures. Walkers will notice how the limestone bedrock creates a dry surface underfoot on the ridges, while the valley floors often trap water, forming peat bogs and damp meadows.
