Underfoot, the walking experience is determined by the water levels of the valley. While some dry, sandy dikes and dirt tracks run along the edges of the valley, the interior is accessible primarily via wooden boardwalks. The most notable of these is the footbridge between Śliwno and Waniewo, which requires walkers to pull themselves across river channels on hand-operated floating pontoons. Outside of these constructed paths, the ground is soft, peat-rich, and impassable without specialized footwear.
In late spring, particularly in May, the marshlands are filled with flowering aquatic plants, and the lack of tree cover across the central valley allows for clear views of the reed beds. This is a working river valley where traditional hay meadows still border the marshes, showing how agricultural cutting prevents the wetland from turning entirely into willow scrub. Visitors should expect a landscape that is damp, open, and heavily reliant on boardwalk infrastructure to allow any foot travel at all.
