About LSG Lauerholz
LSG Lauerholz is a dense, lowland forest located on the northeastern edge of Lübeck. Unlike the open coastal dunes or manicured city parks nearby, this area is characterized by a heavy canopy of mature beech and oak trees, interspersed with damp alder carrs and small, still ponds. The terrain is mostly flat with gentle, rolling undulations, meaning you will not find steep climbs or panoramic viewpoints here. Instead, the landscape offers a closed, sheltered woodland environment.

Underfoot, the paths vary significantly depending on which track you choose. The main forestry tracks are wide, firm, and easy to navigate, while the smaller side paths quickly turn into narrow, muddy dirt tracks winding through thick undergrowth. Drainage ditches and small streams cut through the forest floor, feeding into the Wakenitz river system nearby, which keeps the soil damp and supports a rich variety of mosses and ferns.
In spring, particularly around April, the forest floor is covered in a carpet of white wood anemones before the thick beech leaves block out the light. The area is popular with local walkers and runners, especially on the wider paths near the outer trailheads, but the deeper interior tracks remain much quieter and offer a straightforward, classic North German woodland walk.
