On the path, you will notice the harsh climate's impact through stunted tree growth and wind-battered vegetation. The ground is often uneven, with exposed tree roots and loose stones. Wet peat soils are common near the ridges, which is why boardwalks are installed to protect the sensitive tundra-like ecosystems from trampling.
This area is not a place for free exploration or off-trail wandering, as entering the open terrain outside marked paths is strictly prohibited. While popular trail intersections near the ridge can be busy, the steep ascent routes often feel much quieter.
