The best hiking routes in Ipoly-völgy

Ipoly-völgy offers a distinct walking experience shaped by the slow, meandering course of the Ipoly River along the Slovak-Hungarian border. Unlike the nearby volcanic hills of the Börzsöny, this area is flat and dominated by wide floodplain meadows, willow-poplar groves, and seasonal wetlands. Walkers will notice how the landscape transitions abruptly from cultivated agricultural fields to dense, damp riverine woodland. The terrain is not about dramatic elevation changes, but rather about observing how water shapes the vegetation and land use in a broad valley floor.
