Hauptsmoorwald is a sprawling, largely flat pine and mixed forest lying directly east of Bamberg. Unlike the hilly, open meadows of the nearby Franconian Switzerland, this area is characterized by its dense canopy, sandy soils, and a network of straight, wide forestry tracks.
