The lower gorges, such as Enipeas, feature humid microclimates with wooden footbridges crossing rushing streams, while the higher trails consist of loose gravel, exposed limestone steps, and narrow ridges where the tree line disappears entirely.

Unlike gentler rolling hills, this terrain demands careful footwork on limestone slabs that can be slippery, and high-altitude sections require basic scrambling skills. The lower forested tracks offer shade under a thick canopy, whereas the upper zones are completely exposed to the elements with no shelter. Water sources are scarce on the high limestone plateaus, meaning walkers must carry their entire supply once leaving the lower springs.

In May and June, the melting snow reveals alpine meadows flush with low-growing wildflowers, while October brings deep leaf litter to the beech forests.
