De Meinweg is defined by its unusual terraced landscape, shaped by the erosion of the Maas river and tectonic shifts along the Peel Boundary Fault. As you walk, you will cross three distinct plateaus that rise above one another. This geological stepping-stone structure means your route will alternate between flat stretches and sudden, short climbs through the forested slopes that connect the terraces. Unlike flat Dutch heathlands, this park offers a constant shift in elevation that dictates the vegetation underfoot.

On the lower terraces, the path leads through damp stream valleys like those of the Roode Beek, where the ground is boggy and often crossed via wooden boardwalks. As you ascend to the higher plateaus, the damp woodland gives way to dry, sandy tracks cutting through open heather and birch scrub.
