Croce della Tia - Rio Barchei offers a walk through the steep, wooded slopes and narrow valleys of the Ligurian Apennines. Unlike the flatter coastal paths nearby, this area is defined by its rugged, vertical terrain where dense chestnut and oak forests cling to rocky hillsides. The landscape is shaped by the constant flow of the Rio Barchei, which has carved a deep ravine through the sandstone and shale, creating a damp, shaded microclimate that contrasts sharply with the drier, sun-exposed ridges above.

Underfoot, walkers will find a mix of narrow dirt paths, loose stony tracks, and sections of old mule tracks paved with irregular stones. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter and moss, while the higher ridges feature exposed rock and low scrub.
