CHKO Blanský les is a protected landscape area characterized by its dense beech forests, rolling hills, and distinct limestone pockets. Unlike the rugged, pine-dominated sandstone areas of Northern Bohemia, this southern region offers a softer terrain where deep-rooted broadleaf trees cover the slopes of the dominant Kleť mountain. Walkers will notice a transition from mixed coniferous plantations on the lower edges to ancient, light-dappled beech stands as they ascend. The underlying crystalline limestone and granulite rocks shape the vegetation, giving rise to rich forest soils where specialized wildflowers bloom in May.

Underfoot, the trails are mostly firm forest tracks, packed earth, and gravel paths rather than deep sand or muddy peat. While the ascent to the summit of Kleť involves a steady climb on stony paths, much of the surrounding reserve consists of gentle, undulating terrain that is easy to navigate.
