Castell'Ermo - Peso Grande is a rugged limestone massif in the Ligurian Prealps, characterized by sharp white dolomite cliffs, dense Mediterranean scrub, and high-altitude karst pavements. Unlike the softer clay hills nearby, this area is defined by its steep, rocky terrain where walkers must navigate uneven limestone steps, loose scree, and narrow dirt tracks. The vegetation shifts rapidly from thick oak and chestnut woods on the lower slopes to sparse, wind-resilient shrubs and bare rock as you gain elevation.
