ZEC Pena Maseira offers a rugged, high-altitude walking experience in the mountainous borderlands of southeastern Galicia. Unlike the lush, low-lying coastal valleys of the region, this protected area is defined by a harsh, wind-swept granite landscape. Walkers will find a terrain dominated by extensive wet and dry heaths, peat bogs, and scattered scrub, with bare rock outcrops breaking through the thin soil. The elevation means trees are sparse, limited mostly to small, sheltered pockets of deciduous woodland.
