Parch Natural Pöz-Odles - Naturpark Puez-Geisler - Parco Naturale Puez-Odle is characterized by its stark geological contrast, where dark volcanic rocks meet pale, layered limestone and dolomite. Walkers here will notice how the terrain splits into two distinct environments. To the west, the sharp, needle-like towers of the Geisler/Odle peaks dominate the skyline, while the eastern section opens up into the vast, barren, and karstified high-altitude plateau of Puez. This is a landscape of exposed stone, scree slopes, and alpine pastures, rather than dense forests or deep river gorges.

Underfoot, the trails vary from wide, gravel-strewn farm tracks on the lower alpine meadows to narrow, steep paths made of loose limestone scree and rocky steps higher up. In July, the meadows of Medalges and Campill are bright with alpine wildflowers, while the higher passes remain stony and gray. The area is not a place for gentle, flat strolls; most routes require navigating significant elevation changes over rough, uneven ground where trail markers are painted directly onto the rocks.

While the popular access points around the Seceda ridgeline and the Adolf Munkel trail draw large numbers of day-trippers, the interior of the Puez plateau offers a much more austere and quieter walking experience. Here, the landscape feels almost lunar, defined by sinkholes, limestone pavements, and dry valleys. There are no shelter trees on these high-altitude routes, meaning walkers are fully exposed to the elements on the open stone slopes.
