Národný park Slovenský kras is characterized by its massive, flat-topped limestone plateaus that rise abruptly above deep basins. Walking here does not involve climbing jagged alpine peaks; instead, you will spend your days traversing wide, gently undulating karst plains like Silická planina or Plešivecká planina. The landscape is defined by thousands of sinkholes, known as dolines, which create a dimpled, bowl-like terrain underfoot. The soil is thin and stony, with white limestone outcrops constantly breaking through the dry turf.

Underfoot, the paths alternate between rough, rocky singletracks and packed dirt forestry roads.
