What is the difference between a hike recording and a route?

Routes vs. Hike Recordings

A Route is:

  • Publicly available for all users
  • Can be followed by anyone
  • Enriched with photos and reviews from all hikers
  • A fixed set of coordinates and information
  • Always findable on the map

A Recording is:

  • Your personal hike
  • Visible in your profile or the community feed
  • Contains your own pace and statistics
  • Including your own photos
  • A record of your specific hiking experience

When you record an existing route:

  • Your photos are also added to the route
  • Your recording is shown on the route
  • Other hikers see that the route is being actively walked

From recording to route:

  • You can convert your recording into a new route
  • Perfect for sharing newly discovered paths

Tip: Walking a well-known route? Don't convert it into a new route — the route already exists in the app. Instead, enrich the existing route with your photos and experiences.
