Rya åsars naturreservat offers a distinct contrast between its steep, forested slopes and the open, agricultural valley of the Viskan river. The reserve is defined by a prominent ridge system where dense deciduous woodland, dominated by oak and hazel, clings to the hillsides. Walkers will notice how the terrain transitions quickly from the sheltered, damp conditions of the ravine floors to the drier, pine-dominated soils along the crests of the ridges.

Underfoot, the paths vary from soft forest earth and leaf litter to rocky, root-strewn tracks that require careful stepping.
