About Park Narodowy „Ujście Warty”

Park Narodowy „Ujście Warty” is a vast wetland reserve situated where the Warta River meets the Odra. The landscape is defined by its flat, open floodplains, which are divided into two distinct zones. The northern part is protected by dikes and remains dry enough for grazing cattle and mowing, while the southern floodplain is subject to natural, seasonal water fluctuations. Walking here means navigating a network of grassy dikes, dirt tracks, and concrete slab roads rather than deep forest paths.

Underfoot, the terrain consists primarily of packed earth, clay, and grassy embankments. In the wetter southern section, elevated boardwalks like the Przyrodniczy Ogród sensory path allow you to cross marshy areas, though most routes follow the elevated dikes to avoid the seasonal high water that typically peaks between November and April. There are no hills or forests to block the view, only scattered willow shrubs, reed beds, and drainage canals.

This park is not a destination for hikers seeking varied terrain, steep climbs, or sheltered woodland walks. Instead, it offers flat, exposed walking where the main features are the wide river channels and the thousands of migrating waterbirds that gather on the pastures. The trails are highly exposed to the elements, and the walking experience relies entirely on your interest in wetland ecology, birdwatching, and open river landscapes.
