The Paisagem Protegida Local das Serras do Socorro e Archeira is characterized by two prominent, parallel limestone ridges rising abruptly from the surrounding agricultural plains of Torres Vedras. Unlike the flat coastal lowlands nearby, this area offers steep, short climbs on hard, stony tracks, where the soil is thin and dominated by low Mediterranean scrub, wild olive trees, and aromatic herbs. The higher ground is exposed and marked by historic military fortifications from the Lines of Torres Vedras, offering clear views of the agricultural mosaic below rather than deep wilderness.
