Котленска планина forms the eastern part of the Balkan Mountains, presenting a landscape of rolling karst plateaus, dense beech forests, and open mountain pastures. Unlike the high, rugged alpine peaks found further west, this area is characterized by gentler elevations, deep limestone gorges, and extensive cave systems.
