The best hiking routes in Czarnorzecko-Strzyżowski Park Krajobrazowy

Czarnorzecko-StrzyŰowski Park Krajobrazowy is characterized by its heavily forested, deeply eroded clay hills and striking sandstone outcrops. Unlike the flat lowlands of central Poland, this landscape features steep ridges cut by narrow stream valleys. Walkers will notice a distinct contrast between the dense beech and fir forests on the clay slopes and the dry, pine-dominated areas surrounding the exposed rock formations. Underfoot, the paths alternate between soft leaf litter, sticky clay on the slopes, and sandy tracks near the summits.

The most prominent features you will encounter along the trails are the massive, weathered sandstone rocks, such as the Prządki group. These geological formations rise abruptly from the forest floor, their surfaces shaped by centuries of wind and water erosion into unusual towers and blocks. The vegetation changes rapidly around these rocks, with mosses and lichens clinging to the stone, contrasting with the thick undergrowth of the surrounding woodland.

This park does not offer high mountain peaks or open alpine meadows. Instead, it provides a quiet, enclosed woodland experience where views are mostly framed by the canopy, opening up only occasionally at the highest rocky viewpoints. The trails can be steep and demanding in short bursts, requiring careful footing on exposed tree roots and sandstone steps, particularly during the damp autumn months of October and November when fallen leaves cover the path.
